Happy crafting!

1. The amount of fabric you will need depends on the size of your pad. You can buy box cushion pads from Merrick & Day.

2. Cut your fabric out, you will need a top and bottom section measuring the size of your pad, plus seam allowances, four gusset panels that run around the sides, plus seam allowance; bias cut strips for piping; 1 handle section same width as gusset.

3. Start by joining the bias cut strips and enclosing the piping cord, machine sewing as close the cord as you can, make sure you make enough to go round the top and bottom on the pad.

4. Place around the edges of the top and bottom panels and machine in place.

5. Join the four gusset sections together, leaving the seam allowance open at both ends.

6. Place the gusset around the edges of one of the main panels (the open ends of the gusset allow it go around the corners) and stitch in place.

7. Make the handle – fold in the seam allowance on the long sides, then fold in half lengthways, edge stitch both long edges. Fold in the ends and attach to one gusset panel.

8. Stitch gusset to remaining main panel on three sides, insert pad and slip stitch to close.

TIP: Use different patterned bright fabrics on each cushion to add a splash of summer colour to your garden
